The objective is for Zacky Zingoz to make his way through all 20 levels to obtain 20 map pieces in order to find the Zacky's Quest Statue. One map piece is gained each level, five map pieces hidden in caves in each stage. As Zacky goes further in his quest, more enemies will appear and the area becomes more complicated to navigate.

The other obstacles are roads and water. Roads are filled with heavy traffic caused by cars driven by Zingoz, and Zacky getting hit by one of the cars will knock Zacky off the screen and make him lose a life. For rivers, turtle shells will pop up and logs will float from one end to the other to allow Zacky to cross lakes and rivers, but falling in will lose him a try as well.

===Vegetables and Tries===

Zacky starts out with three, though technically four, tries and can gain more by eating vegetables. Vegetables are able to be found and eaten in each area, and regenerate after gaining a map piece. Eating 50 will make Zacky gain one try (in which he says "Extra try!").
