Arte Fact

Arte Fact is the owner of the Curio Shop and keeper of the Gem Mines. He is a former archaeologist who explored Webkinz World, traveling on numerous journeys and collecting artifacts. He has a nephew, Sparky Fact, who is a part of the 'Kinz Crew. Arte's introductions and responses change depending on the player's Curio Shop purchases and tips.

"A former archaeologist. He is currently the owner of the Curio Shop. If anyone knows gems, and secret treasure troves in Webkinz World, it’s him…well, and his ex-best friend Doug the Dog. Doug and Arte used to be like brothers, but after an unfortunate incident in which Arte found a series of gem mines and didn’t tell Doug immediately, the friendship dissolved. Arte is unmarried, but he has a sister and a nephew named Sparky. Sparky is the most important individual in Arte’s life, often visiting his uncle and wanting to learn more about his adventures."

Character History

"Originally Arte was designed as an old, scholarly dog, but that wasn't right. We wanted Arte to be a rough and rugged dog whose days before running the Curio Shop were filled with excitement and adventure! So we reworked Arte to be the gruff dog we all know and love. While he does have his paws full running the Curio Shop and Gem Hunt, watch for Arte to appear in more adventures in the future!"

Fictional Biography

Starting from eight years-old, Arte would go on adventures with his former best friend Doug the Dog, and would later gain an interest in artifacts. He had his first "real" adventure at fourteen years-old, exploring beyond Kinzville. At sixteen, he found his first treasure- an "ancient gold trophy". He often kept journals of his adventures and discoveries.

Arte attended college under the archaeology teacher Professor Stripes. After graduating, he took on the journey to find the tomb of Hippo Potamus, which he succeeded in (detailed in Arte and the Lost Tomb). He would go on many more adventures, discovering and collecting artifacts along the way. During this time, he would become an "expert" of the Kinzville Forest, discover bluffium, and mine various caves. Stories of his adventures would be published in books, noted by Debbie Dragon during her interview.

As told in The Last Adventure, his final venture ended with him discovering the Gem Mines and founding the Curio Shop, as to share the mines' stones with all of Kinzville. This was at the expense of his friendship with Doug, who wanted to keep all the gems for himself. They have not spoken since.

Arte currently runs the Curio Shop and has retired from his archaeology career. He spends his time tending his shop and hanging out with his nephew, Sparky, who he allows to help out. It is suggested he yearns for his heydays, but refuses to admit it.

Curio Shop

Arte will treat the player as a new customer when visiting the Curio Shop for the first time. As the player makes purchases, tips, and visits the shop more often, Arte will become friendlier.

Once a day, players can go into one of the five Gem Mines and look for gems. Gems can be either sold or kept in a collection. If a player collects every gem, they have the option of trading them in for the Webkinz Crown of Wonder.

Relationships

Doug the Dog

Arte's ex-best friend who is also in the gem business. In the W-Tales The Last Adventure, Arte states that he used to be close friends with Doug the Dog, "so close that [we] were almost brothers," and had a special club together called "The Adventure Dogs". This friendship fell apart after the two dogs got into an argument over the Gem Mines. Since then, they haven't spoken a word to each other. Arte is open to Doug approaching him if he apologizes.

Sparky Fact

Arte's nephew from an unnamed sister. He and Arte are extremely close, Sparky often helping around the Curio Shop or being taken on trips by Arte. This has included to a fall trip to a farm, a tour through his shop and the mines, and a visit to a sugarbush.

Matilda Monkey

During Arte's journey to find the lost tomb of Hippo Potamus, he came across a monkey named Matilda while making his way through the jungle. Despite some initial disagreements, they warmed up to each other and became friends. After the adventure, Matilda went on to university and studied to become a teacher. She and Arte still keep in touch through email.

• Arte has been interviewed twice by Ella McWoof.

• It is stated that he makes the Crowns of Wonder himself.
• There was an Arte Peek-A-Newz event, where clicking him five times would give the player a code for an Arte's Azure Zingoz Photo.
• Arte was given a fashion makeover by Persephone.
• Arte was a part of a story for the Silkie Chicken Contest.
• During his Thanksgiving with Sparky, Sparky states that Arte is a bad cook.
